Welcome to the ChillOut Coach!

The ChillOut Coach is here to help you manage stress, improve performance and achieve work and personal goals. My approach identifies and capitalises on your natural talents, helping you to understand where your strengths may be and building on the resources you already have. The aim is not to take the difficult life events away but rather help you become more resilient and able to cope, expanding your own repertoire of abilities.

I help people to:

  • Focus on fine-tuning their skills and actions
  • Clarify their goals
  • Develop action steps to help achieve short-term goals or long-term strategic plans

Though the primary aim of coaching is to help you develop action plans for change, it also encourages you to increase self-awareness of thinking, moods and emotions.

Coaching

Coaching has its roots mainly in psychology and sports coaching. A performance coach will work on improving the performance of an individual by helping that individual set goals, strategies and actions.

Performance coaching is about improving the performance of an individual or group, not by telling, but by questioning in order to facilitate awareness and self directed learning. Performance coaching is not necessarily about fixing problems but about helping successful individuals and teams to become more so.

  • Coaching is positive, nonjudgmental and challenging
  • Coaching can be practised either one-to-one or with groups of any size
  • Coaching is solution-focused. Coaching always focuses on moving the client forward

Awareness of where you are now is not enough to bring about change; you have to know where you want to get to.

Stress Management

The ChillOut Coach will help you to identify the underlying causes of stress and how to deal with them effectively. What may surprise you is how much we are directly responsible for our own levels of stress at work and home. The good news is that this puts YOU in an advantageous position of being able to reduce levels of stress if and when necessary.

At the right amount of pressure we work at our optimum. We will be effective, creative, decisive, alert and stimulated. The important point to note is that this varies from person to person. One person's pressure is another person's stress.

In fact, when people are feeling appropriately challenged they often feel excited about accomplishing a task, whereas when they are stressed they usually experience a range of negative thoughts, feeling s and physical sensations. Understanding your view of events provides the insight into why you feel and act in the way that you do.

I help individuals find new ways of turning unhealthy stress into healthy pressure. The aim is not to take the stressful life events away but rather help you become more resilient and able to cope. Each person requires an individually tailored programme.

Play To Your Strengths

The ChillOut Coach is here to help you to identify and play to your strengths, to help you understand why sometimes you feel in your element at work and at others times you feel tired, disengaged and de-motivated.

Everyone has strengths. But not everyone is clear about what their strengths are and how to capitalise on them. Strengths are natural, they come from within, and I urge you to identify them, use them and develop them. People who use their strengths are more engaged, energetic, productive, flexible, satisfied and resilient.

In general, individuals are not encouraged to develop and capitalise on their strengths and what they do best. As a result people may often find it very difficult to actually know what their strengths are.

Smoking & Health Coaching

Nearly 13 million Britons smoke, despite more than 100,000 deaths each year from lung cancer, heart disease and respiratory illnesses caused by cigarettes. I have spent the last few years supporting NHS Teams to help people stop smoking and have found that combining coaching with smoking cessation programmes to be very successful.

Most smokers mistakenly claim cigarettes are helping to relieve stress. Rather than help smokers relax, nicotine actually increases anxiety and tension. The relaxing effect of smoking is a psychological addiction. Regular smokers need nicotine to maintain normal moods as they suffer tension between cigarettes. Regular smoking halts the onset of withdrawal symptoms, creating a psychological link between cigarettes and feeling good. All that smokers experience is a relief from their addiction.

Once you have stopped smoking, evidence clearly shows you will be calmer and happier. Ex smokers and non smokers feel less anxious, less depressed and less stressed than smokers.

Health Coaching is the practice of health education and health promotion within a coaching context, to enhance the wellbeing of individuals and to facilitate the achievement of their health related goals.

Health coaching can be used for a number of health-related issues such as:

  • Stopping smoking
  • Alcohol reduction
  • Weight control
  • Maintaining exercise plans
  • Healthy eating
